Les Nelson Memorial Chaplaincy Auction Fundraiser & Breakfast

les-neson

The 10th Annual Les Nelson Memorial Breakfast and Auction was a huge success! We want to thank our 48 sponsors listed on this page, plus the many individuals and businesses who donated the 26 live auction items, 70 silent auction items, and 16 raffle items. We had seating for 320 guests, and there were a few open chairs, but the attendance was high and we want to thank everyone who came and enthusiastically contributed to make this year’s event a wonderful morning! We also want to thank our dedicated group of volunteers who dedicated many hours of “boots on the ground” to help us obtain our sponsors and auction items.

This year’s event grossed over $36,000.00. This is about $5,200.00 more than 2014. This great addition to our bank account, combined with our monthly donations, will help us fulfill our monthly operating budget through the end of the year.

We also want to thank Jan Connors and Sgt. Kevin Tate for their testimonies about how the work of the Chaplaincy has impacted their lives. Their openness and vulnerability was very moving, and we appreciate their willingness to share in front of such a large audience.

As Chaplains we had the opportunity to recognize Mrs. Wanda Nelson for her 90th birthday, and for her 32 years of support for the Chaplaincy. We gave her the patch we wear on our uniforms, and we gave her one of our shields. The Chaplains are known as the “Henry” units in the first responder world. Our shields have 1-H-8, 12, 15, and 16 on them. The shield we gave Mrs. Nelson has 1-H-32 on it in appreciation of her 32 years of supporting the Chaplaincy. Thank you Mrs. Nelson!

The Chaplaincy is a member of the human resources community and provides services to members of our community who might fall into a gap and not receive support when needed or receive support in a timely manner. This support in times of crisis would not happen without our Chaplains. Your donation will enable us to continue this needed ministry and enable the board to fulfill their commitment to our Chaplains. In 2011 we responded to 95 call-outs, 2012 to 103 call-outs and in 2013 we responded to 165 call-outs.  In 2014 the Chaplains were called out 203 times.

Thank you for your consideration of the Cowlitz Chaplaincy. As a “501-c3” non profit we are registered with the legal name of “Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Chaplaincy” and our federal ID number is 91-13123228
